Over the last few years, their shifters have set the bar pretty high and we have just raised it again by releasing their Race-Spec Billet RSX Shifter with a Programmable Shift Cut Sensor. This sensor is mounted on the back of the shifter and uses Hall Effect technology (just like our TPS) to accurately measure front to back shift throw and convert it into a voltage reading. The system functions very similar to a TPS sensor but instead of measuring throttle plate position it measures actual shifter positon. This information can be very useful for some race applications because the data the sensor provides can be connected to a programmable ecu input, to signal an ignition timing cut at set points during shifts. Operation is comparable to expensive strain gauge setups with one pretty big advantage; you do not have to let go of the shifter after every shift. Taking your hand off, can be very hard for some drivers to learn especially for those who have a habit of holding the shifter almost constantly. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cb\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003c\/b\u003e\u003cb\u003eThe 3 wire sensor can be supplied with any ecu voltage between 5V and 16V, so it will work on just about any ecu input circuit. When connected, the ecu will be able to read the exact shifter position and an experienced tuner will now be able to calibrate the exact positions where the ignition timing cut is engaged. For users who do not have experience creating tables and programming ecus to read signal inputs, we have developed a programmable interface unit that simplifies things quite a bit. The interface reads shifter position based on a 5V circuit, so only the 2 engagement points, activate and stop, need to be set. Using a single button on the unit, the user will be able to set the exact operating window of the shift cut signal. Since then they have released three different versions. They have also made some small changes to update the design over the years. Now, in 2019 they have overhauled the three designs. Starting at the bottom they have replaced the white plastic cage that holds the ball with a Delrin bushing. Delrin is used as it is one of the strongest plastics available, it is resistant to chemicals which is great for automotive applications. Delrin also has high abrasive resistance and low coefficient of friction which basically means it will shift smoothly when you first get it and for a long time. This will give you a tighter feel than the original accordion style plastic housing used on OEM shifters. The Delrin bushing is covered with a TPV bushing to keep it clean and anything from inside the bearing. K-Tuned has replaced the stamped steel base plate with a 0.35\" aluminum plate which will be sturdier and not rust over time. This aluminum plate will also add to the rigidity and feel of the shifter. Since this is what holds the bearing assembly we have found the stock plate to have play, be rotted, or not even there if using new aftermarket linkage. They have also added one more threaded hole to increase the rigidity further and triangulate the assembly. Now, this all wrapped around the redesigned lower shaft. We made one minor adjustment at the gear selector, here we are still using a billet rod end, but we added a spherical Delrin insert to allow proper movement at this joint. Allowing this movement helps reduce possible cable bind during shifting. This can also be used to install K20 manifolds or cut RBC manifolds on 9th gen Civic Si as the water bypass is slightly different and you will not need an intake manifold adapter when using the adapter. The adapter lowers intake air temps as coolant are no longer connected the intake manifold. Hon-data has shown that intake air density will drop 1% for every 5°F increase in intake temperature. The other option is using the provided blind hole you can easily tap the head for the second hole. Place tape or plug the holes on the head for intake and coolant to prevent anything from getting inside.  You will use a 5mm or 13\/64 drill bit to drill the head to a depth of at least 11mm (the depth of the bolt) but shouldn’t need more than 14mm. You can apply tape on the drill bit to ensure not to drill too deep. Once you drill the hole you will run your tap. Use a M6x1.0 tap and lube and do it slowly. Be careful not to tap too deep. You can start the thread with a standard tap, but you should finish it using a bottoming tap. This will allow the bolt to use most of the tapped hole. Slowly start to tap the head and check fitment of your adapter often. This setup might be perfectly fine for people that just drive their cars for simple daily use, but the delayed engagement can cause wear to the synchros and possibly even the gears on performance applications. The reason is fairly simple, the factory CMC delays the clutch operation, so it does not open fast enough to keep up with a fast shift.
